ePortfolio - an 'ambitious' approach!

This is a brief outline and quick status update of the ongoing ePorfolio implementation.

The goal of the current design of the ePortfolio system is to meet what students and faculty have already asked for
instead of finding a best application for the Fresno State ePortfolio system. It will provide a learner centered environment that enables students and faculty to store digital artifacts anytime-anywhere, create dynamic presentations in digital formats that can be delivered through web and DVD/CD, and provide assessment and collaboration mechanisms including, but not limit to, rubric based peer review and social networking.

The main components are: Repository > Presentation > Assessment & Collaboration

Repository - a Learning Content Management System:
A network based disk storage system that is managed by the users themselves. Content can be uploaded and organized through a web interface or directly from your desktop environment, i.e. Windows Explorer or Mac Finder. Users can share the file with other users or user groups with permissions. It will also include advanced document management features like revision control and basic workflow. Blackboard Learning Management System is planned to be integrated as a delivery engine for content, automatically adapting to user or group profiles, adding navigation controls, and collaboration tools.

Presentation:
Select and organize teaching and learning materials; prompt analysis and reflection by using templates; transform materials and reflections into visually appealing and intellectually engaging representations; simplify the technical tasks and facilitate knowledge exchange and dissemination.

Assessment:
Share ideas for peer-review, assessment, and collective knowledge building. This has been the major challenge; especially, for credentials.

The goal is to have the system implemented in this Summer, and; hopefully, we can start a pilot with small group of departments.
